The psychological prison I create is a symbol of confinement, the impossibility of crossing a barrier—in this case, a glass pane. The space I inhabit represents my inner self, while the glass serves as a sort of screen onto which I project my thoughts. The ephemeral poetry that emerges live during the performance symbolizes fleeting thoughts that appear for a moment and then fade into oblivion. The accumulating internal content built up within me, and through this act, I aimed to release it and leave a temporary trace of presence.
My performance is a creative act inspired by childhood memories of writing with my finger on a misted-up glass or scraping snow off windows. The only way to share “myself” with the surrounding world is through communication, which I had to learn. To do this, I taught myself to write backward so that the words and sentences I wanted to convey would be understandable to those on the other side. If I wrote in a way that was comfortable for me and approached my work egoistically, I would not be able to share the content, as it would be seen in a mirror image. The reflection that appears on the glass is a record perceived by the person on the other side, while I, being in confinement, see a different image.
The learning and effort required to communicate with the viewers demanded time and effort. I would like to emphasize the crucial role of the artist in conveying content—being able to pass on a message requires learning an alternative path. The trapdoor in my work symbolizes hope, despite being a mere prop. Deeply buried thoughts that I had long disregarded finally emerged from below. However, the process of breaking free from limitations is not one-dimensional and easy. As one steps out of a mental prison, it often turns out that there is yet another glass pane to break through, and such obstacles may be infinite.
