Chewing Gum as a Multiple Self-Portrait
Chewing gum is a material that can be shaped and molded. No piece of chewed gum is the same; I see myself as an artist who unconsciously creates unique pieces. The shape of my teeth imprinted in the gum makes it my trace, giving the form a personal touch that relates to me. The imprints of teeth indicate that I am the creator of the artwork. The gum symbolizes a part of myself, and by giving it to the recipient, I share myself. I believe that chewing gum is a very intimate action, so sharing this experience is a kind of crossing. The heart-shaped form is to evoke the rarity of a praline, and presenting it on a tray suggests that it is something exquisite. People give away pralines, chocolates, so I have deliberately chosen this form to make the recipient reach for my gift. However, inside is chewing gum immersed in resin, which is unsuitable for use. This is a kind of joke. Everyone can decide whether to accept "a part of me" or not.
